Delta County Living brings to our readers the monthly events for the Delta County Library system. Love Your Library.  Are you a library user?  Become a library lover!  February is Library Lover’s Month and there is no better time to show your support for your libraries.  To make a donation, visit any of the five libraries or www.deltalibraries.org.

Kill-o-Watt Readers.  Did you know that you can check out a DMEA kill-o-watt reader from Delta County Libraries?  The readers can be taken home to test your electronics for energy usage.  Check one out today and start saving money on your electric bill by eliminating or limiting use of electronics that consume large amounts of energy!

Cedaredge

Storytime for Babies, Tots, and Preschoolers at the Cedaredge Library. Thursdays starting at 10:30 a.m. Parents and Tots are invited to participate in a reading time together. Contact the Library at 399-7674 for details.

February Storytime Theme.  Rainbows and Sweet Stuff!

Friends of the Cedaredge Library Meeting.  Glade Hadden, archaeologist with the BLM, will give a presentation, with photographs, on the Eagle Rock Shelter located north of Delta on the Gunnison River. The shelter is 12,800 years old and provides the earliest evidence of human occupation in Colorado.  Regular meeting will follow the presentation.  Thursday, February 9 at 2:00 pm.

iPad Basics. Bring your own iPad or use the libraries. This class will teach you the basics of the iPad. Great for all levels of knowledge. Come see if you are interested in an iPad by trying one of ours out first! Friday, February 10 at 10:30.

Email Basics.  Learn the basics of your email!  We will go over all types of email including Yahoo, Gmail, and Hotmail. Learn how to attach files or find old emails.  Friday, February 24 at 10:30 am.

Teen Scene.  Every Friday teens are invited to come hang out and have fun. There will always be a super cool activity!  Friday, February 24 at 4:00 pm.

February StoryWalk®. Tacky and the Winter Games written by Helen Lester and illustrated by Lynn Munsinger will be on display at the Surface Creek Trail StoryWalk® during the month of February.

February Maker Space. Get Slimy!  Come to the Cedaredge Library during library hours in February and get slimy with this hands-on activity!  All supplies provided.

Crafts Group. Crafters meet each Tuesday at 10:00 am to share ideas and show & tell. Contact the Library at 399-7674 for details.

Tech Soup Saturday. Bring your devices and your questions. Our expert “techies” will do their best to answer your questions. Saturdays, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Crawford

Storytime for Babies, Tots, and Preschoolers at the Crawford Library. Stories, games, songs, activities, and crafts for kids 0-5 and their parents or caretakers. Thursdays starting at 10:30 am. Contact the Library at 399-7783 for details.

Valentine Card Making. Come to the Crawford Library to make your own special Valentine Card! February 3 through 11 during library hours.

Computer Tutor. Librarians will be available to help you with questions and problems about computers or mobile devices. Just drop in during regular library hours or call ahead for a specific time. Contact the Crawford Library at 399-7783 for details.

Delta

Friends of the Delta Library Meeting.  The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.  Wednesday, February 8 at 3:00 pm.

Kid’s Craft Day.  Stop by the Delta Library between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 18 and get crafty!   February’s theme: Valentine’s Day!

Delta Book Club.  Join the Delta Book Club!  Meets the third Saturday of every month.  February’s book: 1776 by David McCullough.  Saturday, February 18 at 1:00 pm.

Children’s Jam Band.  Learn to play rhythm instruments on beat with different types of items.  Tuesday, February and Thursday, February 23 at 10:30 am.

Live Candy Land Game.  The children’s area will be a Candy Land game board with candy at appropriate places. Families will have their own color spinner and play the game as they would at home, only they’re the gingerbread men!  Thursday February 23 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and Saturday, February 25 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The Archeology of the Ute Indians and Their Final Years in Western Colorado.  Archaeologist Curtis Martin is back in Delta County for a presentation at the Delta Library on Saturday, February 25 at 1pm. With an introduction by Roland McCook, Uncompahgre Ute and President of the Native American Cultural Programs. The event is sponsored by Delta County Libraries, the NACP and The Friends of the Delta Library.  Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 pm.

Teen Book Club at Delta High School.  This Teen Book Club will meet the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 9:00 am in the fishbowl.  February Book: Miss Perigrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.   Contact the Delta Library for details at 874-9630.

Magic the Gathering. Teens can come to the library to play and trade cards for Magic the Gathering! Tournaments every first Saturday at 10:00am.

Talk & Tangle Yarn. This is a group of knit and crochet enthusiasts that get together to talk and work on their individual projects. Anyone is welcome. Mondays at 5:30 pm.

Hotchkiss

Hotchkiss Book Club.  Join the Hotchkiss Book Club!  This book club will meet the third Thursday of every month in the Addams Room of Memorial Hall and is for adults. February’s book club will discuss The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.  Thursday, February 16 at 3:00 pm.

Cooking Class.  Learn new cooking techniques with professional chef Anthony Reichenbach.  Thursday, February 23 at 3:00 pm.

Your Favorite Book Art Contest.  The Hotchkiss Library will be accepting artwork from all ages depicting your favorite book.  Submissions may be dropped off during the month of February and will be on display for voting until the end of March. Master Builder Club.  Explore your creativity as a master builder with LEGOs!  Join us for monthly design themes and free building time.  All ages welcome, children under 7 should bring an adult.  Meets the first Tuesday of every month October through April from 3:45 to 5:00 pm.

Knit Crochet Day.  Enjoy the comradery of fellow knitters and crocheters; share projects and browse our library of craft books for use or purchase. Always tea and cookies too!  Saturday, February 18 at 12:00 pm.

Armchair Travel Series.  Join Mike Campo at the Paonia Library for his presentation “Making Tracks in Arizona” on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:00 pm.

 

Valentine’s Day Card Making.  Come to the Paonia Library to make a personalized Valentine’s Day Card for a loved one.  Materials and snacks provided. Friday, February 10 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Literacy Program

High School Equivalency Classes.  Hotchkiss location meets at 397 Bulldog Street Monday and Wednesday from 9:00am to 3:00pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00pm to 8:00pm and Friday from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Distance Learning Program.  Do you need your high school equivalency but are unable to attend our classes? Delta County Libraries now has a distance learning program that offers participants the ability to work from home with an online program to prepare for the test.  Contact Ann at astewart@deltalibraries.org for more information.
