The Paonia Ranger District manages National Forest with 478,000 total acres which includes 244,000 acres designated as Wilderness. The District has three developed campgrounds, with dispersed camping allowed in the National Forest and Wilderness Areas. Paonia District has 277 miles of hiking and horseback trails, 400 miles of roads (with some just open to ATV use and others for 4-wheel drive vehicles). Hunting is very popular in the district with 15 permitted outfitters offering both fall and summer experiences.
From Paonia, travel north east on Highway 133 26.7 miles, the campground is just south of McClure Pass on the east side of the highway, with 10 camp sites. Link
North of Paonia toward McClure Pass, turn on CR 12 (Keebler Pass Road), below the Paonia Reservoir, travel east for aprox 6 miles, 18 camp sites. Link
South East from Paonia on CR 12 (Keebler Pass Road), aprox. 16 miles to the intersection of CR 12 and FS 706, the camp ground is about 2 miles, 18 camp sites. Link
