Delta County, Colorado, January 2020 — Delta County Libraries offers many educational and entertaining activities and events for you and your family to enjoy. Delta County Libraries Closed.  Delta County Libraries will be closed Wednesday, January 1 and Thursday, January 2.  Delta County Libraries will be closing early on Tuesday, December 31 in observance of New Year’s Eve.  Please visit our online library at www.deltalibraries.org for downloadable books, audiobooks, music, magazines, movies, online classes, research, and more!

 

Cedaredge

Storytime at Cedaredge Library. Children 0-5 and their parents or caretakers are invited to the library for stories, activities, music, movement and play!  Every Thursday at 10:30am. Contact the Library at 399-7674 for details.

Digging Your Roots Genealogy.  Those pesky genealogy brick walls!  We all have at least one that has us stuck, stumped, baffled, and frustrated.  In the January meeting you’ll learn some navigational tools to break these down.  For more info, call the library at 970.399.7674.  Friday, January 3 at 10:30am at Cedaredge Library.

Two Perspectives: Presenting to an Agent or Publisher.  Adults are invited to Cedaredge Library for “Two Perspectives: Presenting to an Agent or a Publisher.”  Presenter Arleta Pech, a published artist, and her son, author Kelvin Pech, will talk about strategies for dealing with agents and publishers.  The regular meeting of the Cedaredge Friends, along with refreshments, will follow the presentation.  Thursday, January 9 at 2:00pm.

Seed Sorting Party.  Calling all volunteers, seed library supporters, and seed enthusiasts!  Come help us get the seed library ready for the 2020 growing season.  We need your help sorting, packaging and labeling seeds.  Join us at Cedaredge Library for an evening of seed organizing, good company and tasty treats.  Volunteers will be supplied with food and seeds to take home!  Thursday, January 23 from 4:00 to 6:00pm.

Surface Creek Trail StoryWalk®.  The January StoryWalk® book on the Surface Creek Trail is Pat’s First Flight written and illustrated by Cedaredge High School students Sophia McCrackin, Alayna Edwards, Hannah Carlson, & Grace Hatheway.  Cedaredge High School’s Gifted & Talented Program has put together another StoryWalk® for the Cedaredge Library.  We welcome them back for their fourth year in a row!  In Pat’s First Flight, Pat the Penguin gets help from a special flying friend just in time for Christmas!  Find out how the story goes on the Surface Creek Trail!  Then, visit the Cedaredge Library for a take-home craft related to the story.  Contact Cedaredge Library at 970.399.7674 for more information.

Penguin Maker Space.  Kids are invited to the Cedaredge Library to make their very own Pat the Penguin.  Visit the Surface Creek Trail StoryWalk® first and read the story Pat’s First Flight while walking the trail.  Then come to the library to make Pat the Penguin!  All supplies provided.  All month long in January during library hours.

Crafts Group. Crafters meet every Tuesday at 10:00am to share ideas and show & tell.

Cedaredge Lego Club.  Kids K-5 are invited to join the Cedaredge LEGO Club! Explore your creativity and master STEM challenges with LEGOs.  The third Thursday of every month at 4:00pm at Cedaredge Library.  Contact the Library at 970.399.7674 for information.

Tech Café.  Bring your devices!  Bring your questions!  All ages and skill levels are welcome to seek assistance with technology. From smartphones and laptops to tablets and computers, our resident techies will do their best to get you going!  The second and fourth Fridays of every month from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

Crawford

Storytime at Crawford Library. Children 0-5 and their parents or caretakers are invited to the library for stories, activities, music, movement and play!  Every Friday at 10:30am. Contact the Library at 399.7783 for details.

Cabin Fever Book Sale.  Friends of the Crawford Library are hosting their annual Cabin Fever Book Sale the weekend of January 24.  A very special selection of books will be available for purchase at rock bottom prices.  Each item has been carefully selected, sorted, and categorized to offer shoppers the best quality and ease of selection.  Refreshments will be provided.  Proceeds of the sale support Crawford Library programs, furnishings, landscaping, materials, supplies and more!  This is also the perfect time to renew your membership to the friends or become a new member.  For only $10 for an individual or $15 for a family, becoming a member of the Crawford Friends is a wonderful opportunity to support your community library!  Friday, January 24 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm and Saturday, January 25 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Crawford Town Hall.

Crawford State Park StoryWalk®.  The January StoryWalk® book on the trail at Crawford State Park is Tacky and the Winter Games by Helen Lester.  “A-huff-and-a-puff-and-a-huff-and-a-puff-and-a-huff-and-a-puff” “WHAT’S HAPPENING?”  Tacky the penguin wants to know.  The Winter Games, that’s what’s happening.  And Tacky and his fellow penguins Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly, and Perfect have to work hard to get in shape so they can represent Team Nice Icy Land in the athletic competitions.  After rigorous training, they’re ready – but are the games ready for Tacky?  Find out how the story goes on the trail at Crawford State Park.  Then, visit Crawford Library for an activity related to the story.  Contact Crawford Library at 970.399.7783 for more information.

Delta

Delta Book Club.  Join the Delta Book Club!  The January book discussion is The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave.  Saturday, January 18 at 1:00pm.

Delta Friends Meeting.  The Friends of the Delta Library meet the second Wednesday of every month at 3:00pm at Delta Library.  The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Sweitzer Lake StoryWalk®   The January story at Sweitzer Lake State Park is I Don’t Want to Be a Frog by Dev Petty.  Frog wants to be anything but a slimy, wet frog.  A cat, perhaps.  Or a rabbit.  An owl?  But when a hungry wolf arrives – a wolf who HATES eating frogs – our hero decides that maybe being himself isn’t so bad after all.  Find out how the story goes and follow the fun animal sounds as you walk along the Sweitzer Lake Trail in January.  Then, stop by Delta Library for an activity related to the story.  Contact Delta Library at 970.874.9630 for more information.

Build-a-Snow-Fort Maker Space.  Kids are invited to Delta Library to get creative using toothpicks and marshmallows to build a snow fort!  All supplies provided.  Available during library hours.

Winnie the Pooh Scavenger Hunt.  Kids are invited to Delta Library for a winter with Winnie the Pooh themed scavenger hunt.  Snowflakes will be falling in the children’s area with Winnie the Pooh characters.  Find all the snowflakes and win a prize!  All month in January during library hours.

Council of Teens. Calling all teens!  Do you want to have a say in what goes on at the library?  Do you want to help choose the books we purchase?  Join the Delta Library Council of Teens!  The Council of Teens will help plan programs and activities as well as come up with books to add to the teen collection!  Meets every Wednesday at 4:00pm.

Snowman Scavenger Hunt.  Kids are invited to Hotchkiss Library for a snowman scavenger hunt.  All month in January during library hours.

Master Builder Club.  Explore your creativity at Hotchkiss Library as a master builder with LEGO and other materials!  Join us for monthly design themes and free building time.  All ages welcome, children under 7 should bring an adult.  Meets the first Tuesday of every month through April.

CREATEens.  Teens are invited to Hotchkiss Library to express their creativity through various activities like photography, crafts, and creative writing.  Snacks will be provided.  The third Tuesday of every month from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.

Quilt Display.  Stop by Hotchkiss Library and see the new quilt display with rotating quilts provided by S & B Quilters.

Paonia

Storytime at Paonia Library. Children 0-5 and their parents or caretakers are invited to the library for stories, activities, music, movement and play!  Every Thursday at 10:30am.  Contact the Library at 399-7881 for details.

Build-a-Snowman Scavenger Hunt.  Kids are invited to Paonia Library to build their very own snowman.  Find the parts you need in the kid’s area to build a snowman to take home!  All supplies provided.  All month in January.

Knit Crochet Day.  Enjoy the camaraderie of fellow knitters and crocheters; share projects and browse our library of craft books for use or purchase.  Always tea and cookies too!  The third Saturday of every month at 12:00pm.  Contact the Paonia Library at 399.7881 for more info.

Literacy Program

ESL Classes. An intermediate to advanced ESL class meets at Delta Family Center Mondays through Thursdays from 12:15pm to 3:00pm and a multi-level group meets at Delta Library Monday and Wednesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.  Contact Danielle at dcarre@deltalibraries.org for more information.
