Hotchkiss | Delta County Living

Before 1880, due to the presence of Ute Indians in the area, it was illegal for anglo exploration of the North Fork Valley. This changed with the Ute Treaty, and in 1881 Enos Hotchkiss brought his extended family and 200 horses into the valley, this party was the first to make legal homestead claims in the area that was to become Hotchkiss.

Today, the town of Hotchkiss has about a thousand residents, and is the home to the Delta County Fair and Rodeo.
