Delta County Colorado is your base camp for hunting, we provide opportunities from waterfowl to big game. One of the best hunting areas of Delta County is the West Elk Wilderness Area. The West Elk is the fifth largest wilderness area in Colorado, with 176,00 acres, ranging in elevation from 7,000 to more than 13,000 feet. The wilderness area’s most attractive feature being some of the best big game hunting is the state. With 200 miles of trail, many being loop trails suitable for horse traffic, the West Elk offers the hunter pristine wilderness with few visitor days. Points of interest include: the Castles, West Elk Peak, Sheep Lake, North, Middle and South Baldy Mountains, and East and West Beckwith Mountains.
The West Elk Wilderness Area is located between Crested Butte and Curecanti National Recreation Area. It can be accessed either via Kebler Pass to the north of from Curecanti National Recreation Area to the south.
