Formed in 1988, as a non profit organization, the Western Colorado Interpretive Association was organized to chronicle stories of the resources on Western Colorado’s public lands. Working with the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service, the Western Colorado Interpretive Association hosted interpretive programs, operated sales outlets, and assisted these agencies to inform the general public about the public lands of Western Colorado. By 1992, the Association took on increasing roles to collaborate in the identification, administration, funding, restoration and interpretation of projects of significance in Western Colorado. This growth led to increasing the number of partners to include governmental agencies, community organizations, was well as individuals, all interested in promoting the preservation of Western Colorado’s historic resources. In 2013, Western Colorado Interpretive Association updated its name to Interpretive Association of Western Colorado.
